Federal Hill in Providence
Locals commonly refer to Federal Hill as the heartbeat of Providence with an urban edge. Thanks to extensive revitalization projects, the district is lined with quaint shops and boutiques, delicious restaurants and cafes, art galleries, home décor specialty stores, and action-packed nightclubs and bars. Federal Hill’s roots are that of a working class neighborhood comprised largely of immigrant populations. In the early 1900s, Federal Hill was home to one of the largest Italian settlements in the country. Federal Hill was often referred to as Little Italy, particularly along Atwells Avenue where delicious Italian restaurants are found today. The Federal Hill Stroll is a popular gastronomic event typically held in June that involves the most delicious restaurants of Federal Hill. Event goers enjoy live music and dining on samples of food served by dozens of restaurants along Atwells Avenue.
