FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 10, 2014
Jennifer Dahler, Strategic Marketing & Communications Director
PROVIDENCE MARRIOTT DOWNTOWN
BREAST CANCER AWARENESS SUPPORT IN THE MONTH OF OCTOBER
“Think Pink” is the theme at the Providence Marriott Downtown
Providence, RI – The Providence Marriott Downtown is proud to support the cause of Breast Cancer Awareness throughout the month of October. The award-winning Bluefin Grille will feature a special Pink Drink & Dessert menu all month – showcasing items like the YumBerry Pinktini made with Yum Berry vodka, cranberry juice and a splash of strawberry schnapps or the luscious Strawberry panna cotta, mint puree and chocolate sauce. The Bluefin Grille has been a proud sponsor of the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation. This year the restaurant hosted their volunteer training for two evenings in late September.
In addition to the support from the Bluefin Grille, the Providence Marriott Downtown’s engineering team has “painted” the building pink with strategically placed lighting that will mirror the pink beacon of the Statehouse all this week and next. The pink illumination will last through this weekend that celebrates one of the most heavily attended WaterFire weekends of the year.
“The hotel is always very busy on the weekend of the Gloria Gemma Grand Illumination WaterFire and the 5K. We show our support to the community and to survivors of breast cancer and their families in a different way each year. We’ve illuminated the hotel in pink before. But this year we’re taking “Think Pink” to new level.” Says Eric Churchill, General Manager.

October is Break Cancer Awareness Month. Each year the Providence Marriott Downtown and its restaurant, the Bluefin Grille, help out by spreading the word. This October, the Bluefin Grille is offering a Pink Drink & Dessert Menu to help bring awareness. The Bluefin and the Providence Marriott Downtown also co-sponsored the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation Volunteer training series in preparation for WaterFire on the October 11 (as well as many other events that weekend). The Flames of Hope WaterFire celebration is not to be missed. The whole weekend is packed with family friendly events including a 5K, a festival during the day, and it is the Columbus Day Festival on Federal Hill. So if you are planning to visit Providence next weekend, think PINK, bring your sneakers (for the Gloria Gemma 5K and they are comfy for walking around WaterFire – trust me, you’re going to want to walk) and come hungry! At this point most hotels are requiring a 2 night stay, but that’s OK…there’s so much to do, you’ll be glad you did! This is a perfect getaway for best friends or with your sister/mom. Get together, have fun, maybe share a few tears and eat hearty! And schedule your annual mammogram!

During the month of October, the Blufin team will bring awareness to Breast Cancer and the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation. Their special Pink Drink & Dessert menu will feature fruity pink cocktails and supple powdery pink desserts. For those looking to get away for the night in the month of October, the Ultimate Dining Escape at the Providence Marriott brings you the best of both worlds – the amazing food at the Bluefin Grille, a bottle of wine upon arrival and deluxe accommodations. If it’s even possible to be hungry the next morning, this inclusive getaway includes breakfast buffet for two at the Bluefin Grille. So even if you can’t stay over night, stop by the Bluefin Grille in October and treat yourself to an item or two off their Pink Drink & Dessert menu.

OK, technically there are only three weeks of summer left. Why not make it last! This summer AQUA, the cool resorty poolside lounge at the Providence Marriott Downtown, offered their Facebook friends 25% off the AQUA Escape overnight package. The good news!
This special offer will continue through September! Not a fan of AQUA’s Facebook page? Well, there’s an easy fix! September is historically one of the most beautiful months for warm day-time temperatures – perfect for sunbathing and chilly nights that just beg for you to cuddle up next to one of AQUA’s fire pits. The kids have gone back to school. AQUA is a little more grown up in September. Click HERE and check out AQUA’s Facebook page and make your plans to visit before summer comes to a close.

As we near the dog days of summer, it seems like summer has zipped by, yet again. The Providence Marriott Downtown has lots of summer time fun planned and wouldn’t it be too bad if suddenly there were holiday commercials on TV and you hadn’t taken a little vacation?
Here’s the summer scoop:
Are you “friends” with AQUA at the Providence Marriott on Facebook? If you are, you can receive 25% off your AQUA Escape Getaway package while supplies last. Of course, certain restrictions apply and this offer is based upon availability and for AQUA FB fans only. Click HERE to check availability.
The Providence Marriott also offers an exclusive WaterFire Escape package that is extremely popular. The getaway package includes deluxe overnight accommodations, breakfast for two and two complimentary cocktails. The hotel offers free shuttle service to/from WaterFire so if you would rather not walk (walking is my preferred mode of transportation on a WF night) be sure to make a reservation with the front desk right when you check in. Also, if you book this package and need to make dinner reservations, consider dining at the Bluefin Grille.
These are only two suggestions but if neither of these great vacation deals to Providence, RI have motivated you, check out the Providence Marriott’s whole list of escapes. Just click HERE for details and availability.

Who reads Yankee Magazine? The question should be, who doesn’t?! This year the Providence Marriott was the Yankee Magazine editor’s pick for Best Hotel for Pool Lovers. That’s truly understandable. The Providence Marriott sports the only connecting indoor and outdoor pools and the ever popular AQUA, the best outdoor lounge in Rhode Island (voted as such by Rhode Island Monthly). AQUA is popular with the locals, of course because of its ambiance, but also because of the trendy cocktails and awesome food. This summer AQUA’s Fish Tacos have become wildly popular, quickly becoming the “must have” at every private event this summer (including wedding receptions – FUN!). Also in high demand, is the AQUA Escape overnight package. The Providence Marriott offers upgraded poolside rooms with two complimentary cocktails and a special welcome amenity waiting in the room. Poolside rooms have a private patio with a small seating area overlooking AQUA. This is the perfect location to relax on a summer night sipping one of AQUA’s infamous signature cocktails. June 18, 2014 ~ Providence, RI
When I was in California, I had an amazing fish taco. We were visiting my sister and she took us to this little casual place. This was their specialty. Really? Fish in a taco? Who knew! Let me tell you, it was outrageously good! So this summer in my quest to find the perfect East Coast fish taco, I shopped around. Mind you, they are not easy to find. Not like a lobster roll or even a lobster BLT. I conquered my quest at the perfectly relaxing AQUA located in the Providence Marriott Downtown. AQUA’s Fish Tacos are new this season. It’s something they want to become famous for serving. I think they’re on the right track. Available Thursday – Sunday, AQUA’s grilling station cranks out tons of the best fish tacos around. Not just fish ones either. They offer beef and pulled pork too. $13 gets you three and you can watch the chef grill and then assemble your fish taco right before your eyes. AQUA”s fish tacos pair nicely with their signature Margaritas! California you’re getting a run for your money! Insider’s tip: Found out that AQUA will be offering Salsa Dance lessons every Thursday in July and August. $5.95 Margaritas and some fish tacos and you have a girls’ night out to remember! www.aquaprovidence.com
